The Municipal Cultural Institute, specifically the Dechko Uzunov Gallery-Museum, houses an extensive collection of approximately 13,000 pieces, including oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, as well as projects and sketches from the renowned Bulgarian artist, academician Dechko Uzunov. This remarkable collection, a testament to Uzunov’s artistic legacy, was generously donated to the Metropolitan Municipality by his heirs – artists Hristo Neykov, Atanas Neykov, Elena Valchanova, and Penyu Valchanov.
The gallery regularly showcases various exhibitions drawn from this vast collection on the ground floor. These exhibitions rotate, providing visitors with the opportunity to experience and appreciate different facets of Uzunov’s artistry. Additionally, visitors can view exhibitions of watercolors arranged by the artist himself during his lifetime, offering insight into his creative process.
The first floor holds the artist’s studio, which has been meticulously preserved to capture the ambiance and environment in which Dechko Uzunov created his masterpieces. This studio space offers a glimpse into the working methods and creative atmosphere that shaped Uzunov’s artistic vision.
