The monument to Atanas Burov stands proudly in the garden facing the Ivan Vazov National Theater in Sofia. Crafted by the sculptor Prof. Emil Popov and architect Petar Sträskov, this homage was brought to life through the initiative of Iliya Georgiev, the chairman of the “Dignified Bulgarians” foundation.
Atanas Dimitrov Burov, born on February 12, 1875, and passing on May 15, 1954, was a significant figure in Bulgarian history. Renowned as a financier, diplomat, and politician, he initially belonged to the People’s Party and later aligned with the moderate faction of the Democratic Alliance. His contributions spanned various spheres, shaping Bulgaria’s political landscape during his era.
