Professor Marin Stoyanov Drinov was a prominent figure in Bulgarian Renaissance history and philology, spending the majority of his life in Russia. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of Bulgarian historiography and was a co-founding member as well as the inaugural chairman of the Bulgarian Literary Society, which later evolved into the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Notably, he was the brother of Nayden Drinov.
