Architectural tourist complex “Old Karlovo” was opened in 2014 and includes 5 houses, cultural monuments.

The “Bukhalov Khan” house was built in 1850 and was once an inn where merchants stayed overnight. The house has an impressive architecture, authentically furnished and with the unique spirit of the old times. In the small cozy rooms, there are separate craft studios, where master craftsmen present to the tourists weaving, wool felting, wood carving, Kalofer lace, etc. More dexterous visitors have the opportunity to create something themselves. Coffee on sand with homemade jam, brandy and rose liqueur is available. Workshops are organized for young and old – making magnets and key holders, making soap bars, dyeing Easter eggs, making martenichki, cheese cakes, etc. Anyone who wishes is offered the opportunity to wear a Bulgarian folk costume and take a photo. There is evidence that Vasil Levski held some of the revolutionary committees here. There is a souvenir shop next to the house, where everyone can find a suitable gift and souvenir from Karlovo. March, Easter and Christmas markets are held there every year.

The hospitable Duck House is the house of flowers and herbs. Interesting facts about medicinal herbs and rose production can be learned here. At the mini-distillery, the extraction of various essential oils can be observed. Guests can participate in workshops for making medicinal ointments, embroidery and knitting. Herbal brandy and rose tea are tasted. There is also a room of Queen Rosa, with her dresses, throne and crown. Toddlers can dress up, become Little Miss Rose and have their photo taken as a keepsake.

House “Raino Popovic” is the house of the teacher and writer Raino Popovic. Here, every tourist can make a unique certificate of an authentic printing press from the 19th century, cast a wax seal and write it in Cyrillic or Glagolitic. In the classroom, everyone can write on sand, read, draw pebbles, make cards.

“White Courtyard” house fascinates not only with its beautiful courtyard, but also with its rich ethnographic and artistic exposition. Here you can draw, model, learn various painting practices. Various demonstrations, trainings and schools are held.
The “Pateva maaza” was built in 1863 by Vasil Patev, heir to the famous merchant of fabrics, colonial goods and manufacture Patyu Hadjiminchev. It served as a warehouse and shop. Today, the Pateva maaza works as an information center where visitors can get information about the “Old Karlovo” complex, as well as about other attractions in Karlovo and the region.
