Lagera is a residential complex in Sofia, part of the “Krasno Selo district,” covering an area of 89.9 hectares. It is situated between Tsar Boris III Blvd. (formerly 9th September Blvd.) and Academic Ivan Evstatiev Geshov Blvd. (former Dimitar Nestorov Blvd.), along with Granery in the southwest and the “Northwest Industrial Zone.” On the opposite side of “Tsar Boris III” Blvd., it borders the residential areas of “Hippodrome” in the southeast, “Slavia” in the southwest, and “Krasna Polyana” in the northwest. The village “Lagera” houses the 25th “Dr. Petar Beron” primary school, the 114th primary school, Balkanton, NRS, the cultural center “Krasno Selo,” and other facilities.
History
The neighborhood derives its name from a military camp that existed on its territory. In the 1920s, it was included in the town planning plan, and refugees from Dobrudja began to settle there. The district gradually expanded and became known as the “Dobrudzhanski” district. A new street named “Cherna Voda” (later renamed “Council of Europe”) was formed, named after the old Northern Dobrudja town of Cherna Voda. The municipal administration provided refugees with land on which they built single-family houses, facilitated by the nearby private brick factory of the Dinevi brothers.
Transportation
Lagera is well-connected by trams (No. 4, 5), buses (No. 63, 72, 73, 74, 83, 102, 260, 604), and the metro (line M3).
Architecture
The primary construction of the complex dates back to the 1960s, when architect Bogdan Tomalevski created its modern urban planning solution. Lagera is characterized by old, low-rise construction mainly from the 1960s and EPK construction from the 1980s. In recent years, there has been some “new” construction concentrated around “Acad. Blvd. Ivan Geshov,” “Muglen” street, and “Smolyanska” street. Almost all buildings in the area are equipped with central heating.
