Neighborhoods

Strelbishte, a residential complex in Sofia and part of the Triaditsa district, is situated in the southern part of the city. It encompasses a dynamic area, bordered by “P. Yu. Todorov” and South Park to the east, “Gotse Delchev” Blvd. to the south, and “Bulgaria” Blvd. to the northwest.

The neighborhood has a rich history, emerging after the wars for national unification. The name “Strelbishte” is derived from the shooting ranges used by the soldiers of the First and Sixth Infantry Regiment of Turnovo, marking its significance in the city’s historical landscape. The terrain, initially occupied by flooded pastures, gradually transformed into a well-planned residential area. The First Shooting Range, developed by refugees from various regions, and the Second Shooting Range, inhabited by settlers from Transko and Tsaribrodsko, collectively contribute to the neighborhood’s diverse history.

Architecturally, Strelbishte combines various construction styles, including panel, brick, EPK, and modern architecture. The infrastructure is well-developed, with a mix of older one-story houses and newer panel blocks. The architectural diversity reflects the evolution of the neighborhood over the decades, with the first panel blocks (Bs-2-64 series) dating back to the late 1960s, and newer ones (Bs-69-Sf series) erected in the 1970s and 1980s. The 1980s saw increased activity in monolithic and EPK construction, resulting in a varied cityscape.

Strelbishte is renowned for its excellent communication infrastructure, making it one of the most well-connected complexes in the capital. The neighborhood is served by several public transport lines, including trams (1, 7), trolleys (2, 7, 8, 9), and buses (64, 73, 74, 76, 83, 102, 204, 304, N4 – night line). The railway station “Shooting Range” is associated with postal codes 1404 and 1408.

With its historical roots, architectural diversity, and efficient transportation links, Strelbishte remains an integral part of Sofia’s residential landscape, catering to the needs of its diverse and dynamic community.
