The monument to Petko D. Petkov stands in the garden outside the National Gallery “Kvadrat 500” in Sofia, commemorating his legacy as a prominent figure in Bulgarian politics. Petkov, affiliated with BZNS, had a significant political career marked by his opposition to the government and active participation in various diplomatic endeavors. His tragic death on June 14, 1924, in Sofia at the hands of a police officer and member of VMRO, Stefan Karkalashev, was a pivotal event in Bulgaria’s political history. The monument pays tribute to Petko D. Petkov’s contributions and sacrifices in the name of Bulgarian democracy.
