Grave-monument of Ivan Vazov

Monuments

Ivan Vazov (1850-1921), revered as the “patriarch of Bulgarian literature,” left an indelible mark on the literary landscape. A monument honoring this national poet stands behind the Saint Sofia church, fulfilling Vazov’s wish for his final resting place. The monument, completed in 1956, incorporates a significant element: a stone sourced from Vitosha Mountain.

Preserving the legacy of the esteemed writer, the house where Vazov resided and eventually passed away has been transformed into the “Ivan Vazov” house-museum. This cultural gem warmly welcomes visitors, providing an immersive experience into the life and works of the literary giant.
