Art & Culture

The National Palace of Culture (NDK) is the largest convention center in Southeast Europe, situated in the center of Sofia. The building, with its 13 halls, is primarily designed for cultural events. It was constructed as part of the initiatives in 1981 to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian state.

The main building’s architectural project was led by a team headed by architect Alexander Barov, while the layout of the surrounding space was conceived by a team led by architect Athanasius Agura. Landscape architect Valentina Atanasova served as the chief designer of the park surrounding the NDK.

The NDK’s largest hall, Hall 1, boasts 3,380 seats. The entire complex is spread over an area of 123,000 m², covering 8 floors and 3 underground levels. The NDK itself occupies 18,300 m² and has a volume of 576,800 m³.
