In Veliko Tarnovo is the oldest (founded in 1871) and the largest non-capital general history museum.

The departments “Archaeology”, “Ethnography”, “Christian Art”, “Bulgarian lands in the XV-XIX centuries”, “Nova and recent history” and its funds store more than 200,000 exhibits from prehistory to the present day. A significant number of them are unique with national and European significance such as: the Hotni gold treasure, gold ornaments from Thracian burial mounds, silver and gold coins minted from various rulers, marble statues, medieval signet rings, wall paintings – masterpieces of Christian art from the 12th to the 19th century, icons and church utensils. The “Weekly” of Sophronius Vrachanski is kept in the museum, not to mention collections of orders, medals, ornaments, fabrics, ceramics, ritual objects and much more!

9:00 – 18:00 (April-October) 9:00 – 17:30 (November-March)
Prevention: Tuesday 9:00 – 12:00
Entry of visitors is suspended for 30 minutes. before the end of working hours.

Entrance fees:
Adults: – BGN 6.
Students: – BGN 2.
Family (with up to 3 children) – BGN 6.
