Another holy place in Kardzhali is the medieval monastery “St. John the Forerunner” with magnificent frescoes. There was discovered an intact masonry tomb of a bishop in liturgical vestments – incredible samples of the famous Constantinople embroidery with gold threads on silk, with wonderful ornaments, images of the Mother of God and other saints.
