The Museum “House of Humor and Satire” is a unique cultural institute for humorous and satirical art of international and world importance. Created on International Joke Day – April 1st – in 1972, it stands proud
heir to the local folk humor and the cheerful carnival traditions of Gabrovo – the Bulgarian capital of humor. Under the motto “The world survived because it laughed”, the home develops multifaceted activities – it is a museum of laughter, a gallery of world humorous art, an information center, a place for entertainment, and a tourist attraction for young and old. The purpose of the museum is to collect, exhibit and promote the humor of the peoples in the field of fine arts, literature and folklore, photography, posters, merry holidays and masquerade traditions of the world.
The House of Humor and Satire has 10 exhibition halls, a library, a recording studio, a conference hall, a souvenir stand, and free parking. It offers its guests permanent expositions, guest exhibitions of humorous art from all over the world, as well as numerous fun attractions – a children’s entertainment hall, crooked mirrors, copper vats, a joke bank, a monument to the Gabrovo cat with a cut off tail, unique humorous souvenirs.

The House of Humor and Satire honors the official holidays of the Republic of Bulgaria and closes its doors on: January 1, 2 and May 24.
