Assumption Church

Religious

The church nestled in Sofia’s “Obelya” district stands as a testament to timeless craftsmanship and faith. Constructed during 1925-1927, this single-nave structure exudes simplicity and grace, measuring 17 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and reaching a height of 6 meters.

While the initial structure stood with its inherent elegance, the addition of the vestibule and bell tower was a later enhancement, further enhancing its architectural character. Renovation work in 1983 breathed new life into this venerable place of worship, reinstating its spiritual essence.

In 1986, following the meticulous renovation, Metropolitan Dometian of Vidin officiated the consecration ceremony, infusing the church with renewed sanctity. The presence of a dedicated St. throne and the intricate artistry adorning the altar and the bishop’s throne, hewn from the Trevnen school, add layers of historical and artistic significance to this sacred space.
