The Museum of Thracian Art in the village of Alexandrovo was built with Japanese financial assistance and was opened in 2009 in the presence of Prince Akishino and his wife. A lot can be learned here, because the geographical position of Ancient Thrace has always made it a bridge between East and West, North and South. Numerous tribes and peoples passed through this natural crossroads and the Thracians were forced to constantly fight to protect their lands.

In the pantheon of the Thracians, the Great Mother Goddess ruled. Individual tribes gave it different names: Bendida, Zerinthia. The Greeks called her Artemis, Hekta, Aphrodite.

Like most ancient peoples, the Thracians could not explain natural phenomena. They revered as sacred rocks, caves, healing springs… They believed that they were inhabited by deities to whom they prayed, offered gifts, built sanctuaries.
