Museum “Velyanova House”

100 National Tourist Sites

The Velian house is an architectural and ethnographic museum, whose decorative decoration has been declared a cultural monument of national importance. This is the most original bath fortified house from the Renaissance era, which has been preserved to this day. The Velyan house in Bansko was owned by a rich family, but when its wealthy owner was on his way, robbers broke in and killed his wife. He never returned to it and the house was deserted. In 1835, the house was gifted by Banskalia to Usta /master/ Velyan Ognev, who was invited to participate in the decoration and furnishing of the “Holy Trinity” temple.

He paints it inside and out, turning it into a true work of art. The house was a very modern two-story house for its time, built only of stone and wood, with the characteristic two interconnected hiding places on the ground floor and five rooms on the first floor with a loggia. Of great value are the wall-painting decoration of the “Blue Room”, the skillful carving of the porch /central rosette/, the geometric and plant motifs in the south-eastern room of the south facade. An ethnographic exhibition-bazaar, similar to the one in the House of Arts and Poetry, is organized in one of the ground-floor rooms.
