The “Pokrov Bogorodichen” virgin monastery, a patron of the Rila monastery, was founded by the patriot grandmother Fota – the grandmother of Konstantin Fotinov, who, after accepting the monastic order in Russia, donated her property and house to the Rila holy monastery.
Gradually, the metoch turned into an educational and spiritual center. In the middle of the 19th century, more than 100 nuns and novices lived there. In 1837-1839, the impressive stone church was also built. Samokovski craftsmen made the gilded carving of the iconostasis. The icons are the work of Dimitar Zograf, but the mural of the Patroness Mother of God in the narthex, the work of Zahari Zograf, attracts the most attention. The Mother of God is depicted with an unfolded veil, which shields monks, bishops and leaders of the city – founders, among whom is the author of the mural, Zachary Zograf.
