Regional History Museum – Gabrovo is housed in a beautiful baroque building – a cultural monument of national importance, the work of the great Bulgarian architect Nikola Lazarov, built in 1904.

The beginning of the museum is set with the first historical gathering in the Aprilov high school in 1883, an initiative of the high school director Raicho Karolev. Today, its rich collection includes 120,000 fund items from the Paleolithic era, the late antique civilization in these lands (IV – VI centuries BC), the First and Second Bulgarian kingdoms, the Ottoman rule, the Renaissance, the industrial boom up to the present day. Among its valuable exhibits are: cool and protective weapons of the Gabrovo derventians from the Ottoman period, the most complete of the museums in Bulgaria, the Sokai weaving, the first Bulgarian 20 BGN banknote, the flag of the first factory in the Principality of Bulgaria after the Liberation – the only factory flag preserved in the Bulgarian museums, and others.

The boy’s house is an immovable cultural asset – permanent exhibition “Urban life from the end of the 19th to the 40s of the 20th century” of the Regional History Museum – Gabrovo. It is the only preserved monument of representative Renaissance residential architecture in Gabrovo. The exposition shows the changes that took place in urban life as a result of the European influence. It has a separate kitchen, dining room, kiosk, bedroom, salon of Gabrovo fashion, where a representative part of the array of cultural values stored in the Regional Historical Museum – Gabrovo is displayed, among which notable uniques are distinguished. This 180-year-old building is also known as the “House of Memories”.

Summer season

From Monday to Sunday: 09.00 – 17.30 /no lunch break during the week/
Lunch break on Saturdays and Sundays: 12.30 – 1.00 p.m.
