In the town of Smolyan, a unique object in its nature and purpose has been operating for thirty years – a Planetarium. Over the years, it has established itself as an attractive tourist site in the city. Planetarium in the town of Smolyan is not visited
only from Bulgarians, but also from foreign tourists.
The planetarium building has a very beautiful and original architecture. It is equipped with modern equipment, produced by the Carl Zeiss Jena factories. A small observatory was built next to the planetarium, equipped with several telescopes, the largest of which is 15 m in diameter, with which, on a clear sky, visitors can observe the Sun. On the astronomical platform in the courtyard of the planetarium, the extremely precise Sundial operates, which is another tourist attraction.
The “heart” of the planetarium is the round star hall with a diameter of 15 m and 150 seats. Star performances / sessions / are presented in the hall. There are more than 70 sessions. Their duration is 35 – 40 minutes.

– From April 1 to October 31 – day off – SUNDAY AFTERNOON
– From November 1 to March 31 – day off – SUNDAY
SESSIONS IN THE STAR HALL:
– In Bulgarian: 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. – In foreign languages (English, German, French, Russian, Greek, Turkish) – 2:00 p.m.
OBSERVATIONS WITH TELESCOPES:
– Day – On the Sun (every sunny day) – Evening – on evening lights (only on Wednesdays) Note: The session is permanent at 3:00 p.m.; in all other hours, sessions are held for groups of no less than 10 people.
