Art Gallery – Dobrich is one of the largest fine art museums, which offers connoisseurs and visitors a rich permanent exhibition and a rich exhibition calendar. The building was built in the spirit of neoclassicism in the 1930s and was declared a cultural monument. It rises in the heart of the regional town and is an accent in the architectural and cultural memory of Dobrich. On two floors, in 9 rooms is the permanent exhibition of the gallery, which exhibits priceless masterpieces of painting, sculpture and graphics from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.
The permanent thematic collections are of interest:
“The Gold of Dobruja” – inspired by Bulgarian traditions and folklore, in it you can see the works of the most famous Bulgarian artists of the 20th century, among them Ivan Mrkvichka, Vladimir Dimitrov – Master, Nayden Petkov, Svetlin Rusev and others. The work of the people of Dobruja, the seasons of the field, the fruits of the earth, rituals and holidays are recreated in paintings and sculptures.
The painting exhibition is characterized by a variety of styles – Dimitar Arnaudov, Andrey Daniel, Dimitar Kirov. The oldest painting is “Portrait of Jean Louis de Grenaud” – a 17th century canvas that adorned the interior of the home of the heirs of Ferdinand’s lady-in-waiting Countess Anne de Grenaud – Stanchov.
“Sculpture” – in bronze, wood and stone, the hall contains works by some of the most emblematic sculptors of the 80s and 90s of the 20th century – Alyosha Kafedzhiyski, Angel Stanev, Ivan Rusev, Emil Popov, Mikhail Shapkarev and etc.
“The paper” – The only collection of works of paper in the country was selected for 10 years /1995 – 2005/, during which the gallery organized international exhibitions and plein airs presenting the creative pursuits of authors from Bulgaria, Greece, Korea, Croatia, Slovenia , France, Spain, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Belarus, Romania, Switzerland, Finland, Hungary, Turkey, etc. The works in the permanent exhibition are distinguished by artistry, imagination and experimentation, which show the transformations of paper into sculptures, installations, collages and handmade paper. http://www.art-paper.org
“Graphics” – The permanent exhibition “Graphics” traces the development of Bulgarian graphic art from the end of the 19th century to the present day. Included are Renaissance prints from the Karastoyanov and Klinkov families – founders of the Samokov engraving school, works by Vasil Zahariev, Nikolay Rainov, Veselin Staykov, Iliya Beshkov, Zlatka Dabova, Lyuben Dimanov, Stoyan Tsanev, Stoimen Stoilov, Rumen Skorchev, Borislav Stoev, Maria Dukhteva and other contemporary authors. Through the variety of styles and graphic techniques, the exhibition illustrates the development trends of contemporary Bulgarian graphics.
Educational programs are an important part of the gallery’s activities. There is a dedicated space for working with children and students, called “Imagination Workshop”, where they draw, make collages, play and learn.
