The Monument to the Unknown Warrior stands prominently in the center of Sofia, Bulgaria, adjacent to the Saint Sofia Basilica on Paris Street No. 2. Dedicated to the memory of the countless Bulgarian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in various wars fought by the Bulgarian state, the monument is a poignant tribute.
Comprising elements such as the “eternal fire,” a relic from the Battle of Stara Zagora and the Battle of Shipka, significant events during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, the monument also features the iconic statue of a reclining lion, sculpted by the renowned artist Andrey Nikolov. Pylons bearing the Bulgarian flag and a stone slab with a commemorative inscription contribute to the monument’s solemn and symbolic representation of national remembrance and honor.
